Teens And Old Landlines: Why Maintaining These Phones Is Worth The Funny Videos

Have you seen the online videos where teenagers are asked to use either a digital handset phone or a rotary phone? It is pretty funny to watch these kids try to ask the handset phone to call someone or completely fail at dialing a number on a rotary phone. Still, it would not be possible to create such hilarious moments without telephone maintenance services. If you think you would like to create your own hilarious videos of youngsters trying to figure out how to use landline telephones, here is how to maintain a landline and an "old school" phone prior to engaging the kids with a phone call challenge using these phones.

Install the Line

If you have not had a landline for quite some time, you will need the phone company to come out, check for any lines coming into your home, and then reactivate existing lines. Of course, some homes have not had a landline in so long that the phone companies have not bothered to reinstall and update any landline lines and equipment. In that case, you will need the phone company to install a line.

Test the Line

Testing the line happens one of two ways. First, the phone company will "ping" the line to make sure it is in good running order. Second, you (or that wary teenager!) can pick up the handset and place a call to see how well the line works. If you can easily call and talk to people, or your teen figures out how to use the phone and successfully completes a call, the phone line works.

Connect a Phone

Some phone companies will give you a handset phone with stand charger. If you have a retro or vintage rotary phone, you can simply connect the phone cord to the wall and skip the handset and charging base that the phone companies may provide. Once you have a phone connected to the box in the wall, you are ready for all teen hilarity to ensue. Have your cellphone or smartphone ready to record the moment, as you never know how or what is about to happen when you ask a teenager to attempt to use a corded phone or rechargeable handset phone. It may even be that your teen accidentally discovers issues with the line or the functionality of the phone, in which case, if the phone was issued by the phone company, you can get it replaced.
